General Description
WTXY 1540 AM is Columbus County's HOMETOWN Radio Station. Being the only News/Talk radio station in this eastern North Carolina county of 52,000 residents is a responsibility WTXY takes seriously. WTXY provides a full-service community focused format that is heavy on local news, sports, weather, community events and local involvement. It's a highly successful relationship that dates back over half a century when WTXY went on the air.
Programming
1540 WTXY's format consists of local news and information that is entirely focused on the residents of Whiteville and Columbus County. The emphasis is LOCAL. USA News is heard at the top of every hour. Local news and local weather follows the USA Newscast. A light mix of music from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s is peppered throughout the day, providing appropriate listening for any home, car, work, retail or academic environment.
When severe weather threatens Columbus County, turn to WTXY for updates and warnings. An in-studio color weather radar system and computerized Emergency Alert System equipment interrupts regular programming no matter when it happens. WTXY broadcasts continuous weather information when necessary.
The Morning Show
Jason Dozier and Robby Kendall start the day with local news, local sports, weather and information you need to get your day started. Not to mention the best hits of the '70s to brighten your morning! If something happens in Columbus County while you sleep, you'll hear about it in the morning on WTXY 1540. First - Live - Local! Hear about it first thing on The Morning Show.
Robby Kendall delivers a variety of topics everyday at 4:00pm with long-form interviews featuring National and Columbus County individiuals and leaders. The political gloves come off as Robby talks with the political leaders of all parties about issues and policies concerning our listeners.

Whiteville Football
WTXY's Local High School Football coverage is unmatched! Our football coverage includes live Whiteville High School football on the internet, then replayed on WTXY Saturday mornings at 9am. Whiteville Football is also featured on a Video Podcast on wtxy1540.com, available for viewing at no charge from your computer. The broadcasts are also simulcast LIVE on FM 100.9.
East Columbus Football
East Columbus High School fans will be treated to a live broadcast on the internet, and a tape-delayed broadcast for East Columbus at 11:00am Saturday's.
Volleyball Game of the Week
WTXY will present a live Volleyball Game of the Week from throughout Columbus County. Each game will be live on the internet, then replayed at at 8:00am Saturday's. Check back for complete broadcast schedule.

WTXY 1540 targets the 30-plus adult buying population, but as THE HOMETOWN community radio station, WTXY programming appeals to the masses. It works. WTXY continues to enjoy the ability to be immediate and live at all times.
Coverage
1540 WTXY broadcasts at a full 1000 watts of power day. It covers all of Columbus County and portions of the surrounding counties. WTXY maintains fully equipped studios at it's transmitter site to broadcast when wide spread power outages occur in the community. The latest solid state transmitting technology and signal processing equipment was installed in September 2008 to broadcast the loudest and clearest AM signal possible. Backup facilities are also available to provide continuous service to the local community.
